Barney Joe Bates, 64, of La Follette, TN, passed away on April 27, surrounded by wife
and loving family.
 
Barney was born on August 26, 1960, in Atlanta, GA, the son of Judy Whaley and
Stepfather Rick.
 
Barney began working as a paramedic in Mount Vernon, IL at Litton Ambulance
Service. He continued his career in DeKalb County, GA for several years. He worked for
the Campbell County Ambulance Service for over twenty years, retiring in 2023.
 
Remaining to cherish Barney’s memory are loving wife, Lisa Bates, children, Justin
Bates; Stepchildren, Jessica Rigney (Chris), Heather (Tyler) Terry, Trevor Rigney, 
grandchildren, Ronan, Dax, and Tyleigh Mitchell, Owen and Warren Terry; parents, Judy
and Rick Whaley; brother, Jim (Faith) Bates; sister Cyndi (Joel) Horton; nieces and
nephews.
 
Preceding Barney in death Grandma and Grandpa Rash; Father-in-law and Mother-in-
law, Verlin and Henrietta King; Sister-in-law, Sharon King.
 

Upon Barney and family wishes he will be cremated.
